The Apostolic Prefecture of Yueyang was established on May 7, 1931. It is situated in the Hunan province of central China.
It directly functioning under the Vatican’s Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.
The diocese shares its border with the mother diocese Changde and Diocese of Puqi, Archdioceses of Nanchang and Changsha and Apostolic Prefecture of Lixian.
The diocese has been vacant. However an apostolic administrator was appointed in 2012.
